7/1/07 ~
Meditation
This sketch was done
from life. I could relate to the state of mind of
this spinner. I watched as she drifted in and out of meditation.
The
spinning treads seemed to hypnotize her the same way my
pigments and brushes enchant me.

7/2/07 ~ Paul Potts
~ Instantaneously A Star
Someone sent me a
link to this clip of a humble phone salesman
from Wales doing his first audition on "Britain's Got Talent".
This is opera
like I've never heard before. I cry every time. It's just incredible!!
Go to YouTube.com and search his name.

7/3/07 ~ Paul Potts
~ Dreams Can Come True
Carol Anderson replied
to yesterday's post with these words;

7/5/07 ~ Elephants for Lee
My friend, Lee Gates is in the hospital
with a lung disorder.
I drew these juvenile elephants to cheer her up. They are one
of her favorite animals. Get well soon Lee!

7/6/07 ~ Don't Guess This Movie
This in depth movie's great! It's
called "The Expanding Universe".
Did you know that we have over 100 billion stars in our Milky
Way Galaxy
and that there are over 100 billion galaxies in our known universe?
A difficult
number to comprehend; a billion seconds ago it was 1959. A billion
minutes
ago Jesus was alive and a billion hours ago our ancestors were
living in the
Stone Age. A billion days ago nobody walked on the earth on two
feet.

 |
7/7/07 ~ Strange But Good
This movie came out in 2003. It's
one of my recent favorites.
Anybody got a clue? I know a lot of you have seen it.
|
 |
7/8/07 ~ A Dead Give Away
This sketch has just got to give this
movie away! If I don't get some
correct answers on this one, I'll know you are just not interested,
haven't seen this flick or you're not looking at your emails!
|
 |
7/9/07 ~ Two Words
What are the two words that best describe
this sketch? This is the name of the
movie I've been trying to depict. Anybody get it yet? Maybe I'm
just one
of the few to have seen this one. I'll give you the answer tomorrow!

 |
7/10/07 ~ Vancouver, British Columbia
For a change of pace, today I went
to Canada via wavelit.com's live eaglecam.
The answer to the movie I've been
depicting, which has been called a modern
day "Wizard Of Oz" is called "Big Fish".
It's a wonderfully magical tall tale.
I guess a lot of you haven't seen it yet. I only got three correct
answers, but
my inbox jingled with some pretty creative titles! Thanks to
many for
participating and joining in on the fun!

7/12/07 ~ Solitude
Today's quick study is of a place
in Alaska. This peaceful
scene speaks to me of isolation and unspoiled natural beauty.
|
 |
7/13/07 ~ Caribou
Unlike other deer, Caribou of both
sexes usually have antlers.
Inhabiting northern forests, bogs and tundra, this animal
would be right at home in yesterday's landscape.
|
 |
7/14/07 ~ Moose
Another antlered species you'll still
find plentiful in the vast Alaska
wilderness is the Moose. This sketch shows a young bull with
a nice rack.
|
 |
7/15/07 ~ Hawk
Hawk is a raptor that is symbolic
of the warrior being well
prepared to seize and make good use of every opportunity.
They are personifications of visionary strength and divine power.

7/16/07 ~ Visualize A Better Future
When a hawk makes itself present to
you, it may be signaling a time
when a divine spark is most needed to inspire your courage,
creativity and vision for the future.

 |
7/17/07 ~ Empowerment
Today's Golden Eagle sketch speaks
to me of power. After participating
in "Firing The Grid" this morning, I am all charged
up and more convinced
than ever of the power of collective thought. Wow! To all those
who participated,
please email me your experience and thoughts!

 |
7/18/07 ~ Portrait Of Power
Raptors are power birds. Their essence
sparkles with it.
They are metaphors of vision, focus, precision, and achievement.

7/21/07 ~ Ancient Insects
250 million years ago Dragonflies
and Mayflies were some
of the first ancient insects that roamed this planet. Their design
has
stayed relatively the same, they have just gotten smaller.
|
 |
7/22/07 ~ Strange Perspective
Not the usual pose, this front view
of
a dragonfly on a leaf might take a minute to see!
My first Drawing Everyday Workshop is coming together.
Thanks to all for your interest, comments and questions.

culinary field to
create truly authentic food.
|
 |
7/24/07 ~ Classes
Gourmet cooking classes give participants
a feel for
how things are done in a professional kitchen.

 |
7/26/07 ~ A Mystery Movie About
Food
Movie making has come a long way since
the introduction
of the computer. Most productions still start out with hand
drawn sketches and a story board like this one.
|
 |
7/27/07 ~ Caught Red Handed
Here, the main character of our mystery
movie is caught here
stealing some cheese. Can you name the movie ?
If so, what's this character's name?

7/28/07 ~ Drawing Lesson ~ First
Step
Remember, anything is sketchable!
Today's drawing shows you how to hold
the pencil when you first
start your drawing.
|
 |
7/29/07 ~ Drawing Lesson ~ Second
Step
Ok, now you can tighten up a little
and hold the pencil like you would
to write. Add some of the main details, correct and refine your
sketch.
Keep in mind that this is an exercise. It doesn't have to be
a masterpiece!
|
 |
7/30/07 ~ Drawing Lesson ~ Third Step
All I've done here is add a background
wash. I started by generously
wetting the surface of my paper with clean water. I went right
up
to the edge of the figures so the paint would flow to the edge
and the
strokes blend together. I use a thirsty, *dry brush that's loaded
with
pigment. I start squinting a lot from this point on. This makes
it
easier to see big shapes and values.
*The brush is damp, yet dryer than
the paper.
|
 |
7/31/07 ~ Drawing Lesson ~ Final
Step
After the background was dry, I did
the same thing with the
figures. I wet the entire surface of each with clear water, being
careful to stay in the lines. Then squinting, I floated in pigment
with a dry brush, giving them shape by rendering values and
a few details. When the figures were dry , I added a few more
calligraphic strokes on the dry paper, quickly dampening
some with a clean *dry brush to soften some edges.
This is a picture of Remi' the rat
and Gusteau, his spirit guide chef,
looking through a window into a Paris restaurant in "Ratatouille".
It's Pixar's best film to date!
